CRYPTA At The Nile Underground

The Nile Underground and 13th Floor Entertainment were hosts to Crypta, an all-female death metal band from Sao Paulo, Brazil. The Nile Underground was sold out, and honestly, this should have been at a bigger venue. Crypta’s music is deafening and in your face. Every member has such a big personality, and the
talent speaks through their music. I got there around 6 p.m, and the line was already forming around the venue, with the doors not even opening until 7 p.m. This shows how true and loyal their fan base is!

It was around 10 p.m. when Crypta finally hit the stage. There were sound issues that had to be fixed, but the thing that stuck out the most was how the band interacted with fans. A person upfront was holding a fan that looked like metal blades, so Jessica, the lead guitar player, asked to see it and was posing with it. As the anticipation grew, the sound issue was finally fixed, and it was time for Crypta to rip all of our heads off. Opening up the night with the blistering song ‘The Other Side of Anger’ off their newest album, ‘Shades of Sorrow‘. This set the atmosphere for the rest of the night.

There are no gimmicks with this band, and their live show is just as brutal as their music. Fernanda, the lead vocalist, and bass player, has a presence that sort of reminds me of Tom Araya or Max Cavalera. She’s passionate and controls the entire stage with her malicious vocals. Watching this band live is a privilege, and from start to finish, they’re everything that they put out on record. There is pride behind their music, with a vicious touch that only Crypta can bring. This band has already accomplished a lot in a short period of time and has worked endlessly at creating their own sound and pathway. Their fan base along with myself expect them to do big things in the near future! The next time they come to town they’ll be selling out one of the larger venues in Phoenix.

I was born and raised in the Los Angeles CA and moved to Phoenix AZ in early 2020. Growing up, I was surrounded by musicians and artists who influenced my life. I've always felt a pull towards photography and finally have the opportunity to invest in my passion. I originally started out with street photography when I was a teenager. Then a good friend of mine asked me if I could take photos of his band and now I'm doing what I love, concert photography!
