IV & The Strange Band at The Nile Underground

IV & The Strange Band brought their DIY attitude of alt-country/punk/rock show to The Nile Underground this past Thursday night. Their set, ranging from banjo-laden country to thrashing-across-the-floor punk, brought everyone packed into the basement venue directly against the stage. Most songs came off of their recent album “Southern Circus“, where-in band founder and lead Coleman Williams demonstrates not only his country roots (being the latest scion of the Hank Williams line to step onto a stage), but also his ability to sidestep all the expectations and bullshit that one assumes accompanies this lineage. There is no escaping their country music roots (as heard in songs such as “Stand Your Ground” & “Southern Despair”), but by infusing modern themes and a hardcore punk attitude (“Deep Down”, “Inbred”, and “Filth”), IV & The Strange Band elbowed their way out of the preexisting shadow of tradition to breathe life into their own genre-defying style. IV & The Strange Band are currently on tour with The Goddamn Gallows, and are playing extensively across the US for the month of July.
