Stygian, another event by the Desert Runners group, is an event in north-ish Phoenix, at a venue called ‘Original Gravity’. The atmosphere at Stygian is somewhat bright, a decent sized patio (both in the front and back), and a bar with decent drinks. It seems like throwing an EDM Goth night there would be an after thought as a the venue has more of an art-space with a bar type of vibe, but it works well with the minor addition of some lights. The dance floor isn’t large, but lends the rest of the venue for more socializing. When I attended, they had Drekkers, a smoothie type beer, which is pretty hard to find at most locations to be served, but their Whiskey Ginger also held up.
The Desert Runners have done a few events here, and unlike their larger events at Endgame, this seems poised to a more intimate setup. There isn’t a lavish lighting show, but the minimalist setup allows for you to be up close and personal with the DJ’s that have been in the Desert Runner Roster.
