The Cult brought their unique sound to Chandler, AZ. The English rock band was formed in 1983, and even though they have gone through a handful of members and a couple of band breakups, The Cult is still going strong! There was no opener for this show and the crowd got 16 songs from The Cults’ wide ranging discography.
Before the band took the stage, the stage tech smudged sage all over the stage, cleansing it and getting rid of all the negative energy. This was my first time seeing The Cult and I was beyond excited to finally witness them live. The Cult has been a staple in my little black heart and in the Goth scene. While I was waiting for The Cult to take the stage all I could hear from those around me was about how good Ian Astbury still sounds amazing after all these years. The crowd was a mixture of people of all ages from younger to older, and from bikers to punks and goths! As the lights dimmed, the venue filled with fog and each member took the stage. The band opened up with ‘Rise’ off their album Beyond Good and Evil in 2001. The stage production was perfect for the goth rock-fueled band. Mainly being backlight with a ton of fog to create that dark atmosphere feel. Going back to Ian Astbury, everyone was right: I was blown away at how good he was live. His voice is still at the top tier and honestly on a level that sounds like we’re listening to one of their records live. The Cult is a band that will live on for centuries, and their live shows can attest to that.
