Hot off the release of their latest album, Saint Motel brought their “Symphony In The Sky” tour to The Van Buren in Phoenix, Az. Lead by AJ Jackson, with Aaron Sharp on guitar, Dak on bass, and Greg Erwin on the drum kit, Saint Motel is one of the most theatrically minded and themed touring bands currently on the road. Named for the album they dropped barely a month ago, Saint Motel & The Symphony in the Sky, this latest tour found the gentlemen busting out the bows, midnight blue and black tuxedos, a (projected) string quartet on the stage, and a magical conductors wand to tie everything together.
Reaching all the way back to their first LP, Voyeur, Saint Motel opened the night with “Puzzle Pieces”, and bled that expertly into a bit of Beethoven to drive home the nights (and the newest albums) symphonic theme. Throughout the evening, hits and crowd favorites were interspersed between pieces from the new album. Standout classic tracks include “This One’s For Elise” (which sent a jolt of electricity through an already energetic crowd from the moment AJ hit the first key on the baby grand he had on stage), “A Good Song Never Dies” and capped the evening off with “My Type”. Off of the new album, Saint Motel introduced the crowd to future live favorites “Hold My Place In Heaven”, “Life’s a Gas”, “Get It At Home”, “Steady Hand”, and “A Bluer Blue”. Ever the expert leading man, AJ brought forth his bona fides as a lover of the Phoenix desert, reminiscing about spending childhood vacations with family out here in the Valley before taking out his wand and “conducting” a light show before launching into “It’s All Happening” and “Fine Wine”.
Saint Motel is just kicking off their tour bringing their spectacular Symphony in the Sky around the country with tour dates extending now through the end of May. Full set list below image gallery.
