The metalcore band from Boston Massachusetts started in 1998 and with several ep’s under their belt, they carved their name into the hardcore history books. With the departure of Ken Susi Unearth decided to keep the machine going and released a new album ‘The wretched, The Ruinous’.
The house of blues Anaheim Parish hall hosted the headlining act Unearth, with supporting acts Upon a Burning Body, Thrown into exile, and 156 Silence. The last time I saw unearth was the ‘Unholy Alliance Tour with Slayer’ in 2006. I was pretty excited to see Unearth again, as there is only one way to describe it. Heavy as fuck! There’s no way around it, this band is brutal, and their live show is no different. Their shows get violent and I mean that in the best way possible. With Upon a Burning Body going on right before them, the crowd was already pumped up and ready to destroy the parish hall. The crowd was a mixture of newer and older fans. For any band that has been around this long it’s always great to see them expanding out to younger audiences.
As Unearth started to take the stage, they opened up the portal to hell with ‘My will be done’. This is a classic metalcore song that will get any pit going! Their entire set list hit everyone in the venue like a ton of bricks! They have that old school thrash element which just adds to their heaviness and makes it a full on metal assault! I thought the house of blues was going to be torn down or the stained glass windows were going to shatter. From beginning to end there wasn’t any let up and there was no love ballads. As an Unearth fan you know exactly what you’re getting with them. Heavy ass breakdowns, circle pits, and Trevor’s mean vocals! As it was coming to an end, no one wanted them to stop playing! They closed out the night with ‘Black hearts now reign’!
