The Klash of the Titans tour features co-headliners Kreator and Sepultura, along with the kings of thrash Death Angel and up and coming Spiritworld.
Sepultura needs no introduction, as they have been at the forefront of the metal scene since the late 1980s. As the dust started to settle from Death Angel, it was finally time for Sepultura to take the stage. Opening up the night with Isolation off their album ‘Qaudra,” released in 2020. Up next was ‘Territory’ which will always be one of my favorite Sepultura songs. I couldn’t help but sing along, all while taking photos in the barricade area. I had a pretty surreal moment when Andreas looked at me while we were both screaming ‘War for territory’. Derrick Green made it very clear they were doing a good amount of older songs like ‘Propaganda’, ‘Refuse/Resist’, ‘Arise’, ‘Ratatmahatta’, and of course ‘Roots bloody Roots’. This was my first time experiencing Sepultura with singer Derrick Green, and I have to say I was quite impressed and fully understand why Andreas made that decision. If you’ve never witnessed Andreas Kisser live, you’re completely missing out. His talents on the guitar on record are impressive, but seeing him live is a whole other story that goes way beyond expectations.
As their set started to come to an end, it was time for everyone to jump the fuck up and continue jumping for the hit ‘Roots bloody Roots’.
It was finally time for Kreator to take the stage. As their huge banner hung across the stage and the lights started to go crazy. Each member started walking out, and the crowd started throwing up the metal horns! As the banner dropped, everyone was surprised to see the giant demon hanging over the drums! The fans went absolutely ballistic as Kreator opened up with ‘Hate Uber Alles,” the second track off their latest album ‘Hate Uber Alles’. Kreator is a touring machine, and what you hear on record is what you’re getting live. It’s evident that this band has it together, and you don’t have to worry about them having an off night. Their live show is straight-forward and filled with pure heaviness. It’s evident Kreator Is there to do two things: chew bubblegum and fuck shit up. Luckily for us, they were all out of bubblegum.
All in all, this was an amazing night of heavy music. The co-headliners did not disappoint and destroyed the Van Buren. The beer was flowing, the mosh pit never stopped, and by the end of this show, my ears were bleeding!
